I was born on May 21st, 1952 in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Soon after I was taken to Lampazos de Naranjo in the northern part of the neighboring state of Nuevo León, bordering, like Tamaulipas, with the United States of America. Here, in the beautiful little town of Lampazos, N. L., native land of generals and poets, I spent my childhood and early adolescence. My mother had been born in San Antonio, Texas, and my father came from the state of Michoacán, Mexico. They both meet for the first time in Monterrey, Mexico where I now live.
I arrived in Monterrey, Mexico in May 1967 and began working in a lumber yard finishing in the evenings my junior high school. Soon after I got a scholarship and I spent the next six years studying physics, mathematics, chemistry, a little of management, English, and a little German. I am also interested, and have spent some time studying several other technical fields.
During those years I attended, for around three years and a half, the Chemical Engineering and Management School of the Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM). Before finishing my Bachelor degree I got a job as an Assistant to a Medical Librarian at the Mexican Institute of Social Welfare (IMSS) and left school.
After I quit my position at the medical library I went through a series of different jobs. I worked for a time at the General Motors Assembly Plant in Saltillo, Coahuila also in Northern México. I worked, as a Technician in Foreign Trade and Material Control, at a plant of Celulosa y Derivados, S. A. (CyDSA), a well known chemical plant in Northern Mexico.
I also worked, as a Foreign Trade Technician and in the field of Materials Control, in several small companies before I became a full time Instructor of English as a Second Language.
I once had the opportunity to travel throughout several counties in Europe and I have been many times to the United States of America.
I am the author a peculiar but very useful and very unique Guide to Learn English Pronunciation that includes text and an audio file.
I have always been interested in social development and to a certain extent in politics. That has put me in touch and in close communication with many interesting people and government officials of all levels from my country and from other countries.
At this moment I am quite busy working in several fields and projects.
My full name is Gerardo Javier Gálvez Arellano. People call me just Gerardo.
